About One Book One Community
The Community Foundation, in partnership with the Staunton Public Library, the Waynesboro Public Library, the Augusta County Library, and The News Leader, is once again hosting a community-wide read. One Book One Community, previously known as The Big Read, gives our community the opportunity to unite in the reading of one common book. We will read, discuss, and celebrate Clyde Edgerton’s Walking Across Egypt throughout the Augusta, Staunton, and Waynesboro communities. Activities will take place throughout March of 2012, and 1,000 copies of the novel will be given away.
The Community Foundation has hosted four extremely successful Big Reads since 2008, with a multitude of community assistance, featuring events all over the community in libraries, schools, restaurants, theaters, galleries, nursing homes, and clinics, among other places. This year’s Calendar of Events promises to be just as diverse. The Foundation is planning an exciting kickoff on March 6th, 6:00 p.m. at Gypsy Hill Place with a performance by nationally acclaimed musicians Robin and Linda Williams. ShenanArts will be presenting a staged reading of the play version of the book on Saturday, March 10th, 7:00 p.m.
