Type of Funds
Agency Funds provide support to the specific non-profit organization. Non-profits may choose to establish endowment funds with the Foundation so that they may concentrate on their missions, not on extra administrative duties or investment concerns.
Award Funds recognize outstanding achievement and/or contribution to the community in the form of specific public service.
Designated Funds are designated by the donor(s) at creation to support specific community needs. You can direct your gift to a specific agency or purpose. Help provide ongoing funding for a senior center, museum, your church, or virtually any nonprofit charitable organization. You identify the recipient you wish to benefit through your gift; our staff manages the annual distribution of funds.
Donor Advised Funds enable donors to be active partners with the Foundation in the grant making process through annual grant recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Donor-advised funds are an ideal environment for people to start to experiment with mission investing.
Field of Interest Funds provide community grants to organizations based upon charitable areas of interest. You can target your gift to address needs in an important area of community life. The arts. Aging. Youth. Health care. You identify your personal interest area when making your gift; our board awards grants to community agencies and programs that are making a difference in the area you select.
Scholarship Funds provide educational grants to recipients based upon specific criteria. The creation of a scholarship fund is attractive to many donors; these funds an be structured to benefit students at any education level, and may be directed to a specific educational institution. A scholarship fund can also be established to honor a loved one. Some donors choose to stay involved through advisory relationships, while others name advisory committees to assist in the selection of recipients. Either way, our staff will handle the necessary paperwork and will ensure that scholarships are distributed in an equitable manner. Distributions will be exclusively for scholarships in accordance with objective criteria established for the fund.
Unrestricted Funds provide annual competitive community grants to non-profit organizations and programs in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland, Nelson Counties. They provide the greatest flexibility in making grants to address the community’s most pressing needs.
