August 26, 2011 – The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is delighted to announce that the 14th Annual Smyth Education Awards were presented at the opening meeting of Nelson County Public Schools on Wednesday, August 17th at Nelson County High School.  Established in 1998, the Smyth Education Awards annually recognize and reward outstanding staff performance in the public schools of Nelson County.

 During the ceremony, ten recipients were recognized for their exemplary efforts and presented with a plaque and a cash award.  The 2011 Smyth Education Award recipients are:  Susan Ballowe ( Instructional Assistant in the Pre-Kindergarten Bright Start Program, Rockfish River Elementary School), Jeanmarie Bantz (Special Education Teacher, Tye River Elementary School), Carrie Bryant (Kindergarten and 1st Grade Teacher, Rockfish River Elementary School), Vicki Crawford (Physical Education Teacher, Nelson County High School), Toni Donigan (Physical Education Teacher, Nelson County Public Schools), Jeff Harris (Network Operator, Nelson County Instructional Technology Program), Frances Kidd (Food Service Program, Nelson County Public Schools), Holly Reynolds (Nursing Program Instructor, Nelson County High School), Kathy Tolton (Special Education Teacher, Nelson County High School), Gordon Wiley (Custodian, Nelson County High School).
